I drew a giraffe

Here’s the story: I drew a giraffe; And I’m quite pleased with how it turned out.

I drew a giraffe

I used a random, yellow, wooden pencil that I sharpened with a pocket knife. I drew it on a piece of blue paper because that’s what was sitting on my desk. I drew it over the course of about two weeks however I probably spent a total of 3-4 hours working on it. The only reason I drew it was because my brain was feeling fried with computer and video work. I needed to rest and somehow drawing a giraffe felt like the perfect way to relax my brain parts.

I think it’s against the laws of the internet to post about giraffes without at least a few fun giraffe facts:

  • As most people already know giraffes have the same number of neck vertebrae as other mammals: seven.
  • Their “horns” are called ossicones, they are not actually horns or antlers but resemble the bony structure that horns of other species grow on.
  • Giraffes are ruminants, which basically means they ferment their food in a special stomach before they digest it. Deer, sheep, and cows are other common ruminants.

I may turn this idea into a series, drawing highly detailed things on colored paper. I also might not.
